Are your prices the same as the Apple® store?
We honor Apple’s education discount on all Apple computers in our store. We also offer a small educational discount on iPads. Our accessories are competitively priced. Technology Connection is happy to offer AppleCare+® for Mac (which now includes accidental damage coverage) at a lower price than Apple retail stores or Apple online even with education discounts.
Do you offer a loaner program?
We do. Our loaner program is for specific laptops that were purchased from Technology Connection and enrolled in the loaner program. Depending on the model, we either give students a computer with their own hard drive already installed, or a pre-installed image if their computer does not have removable storage.
Hardware
What technology do I need to be prepared for Tulane?
In addition to a computer, we recommend a multi-part back up strategy, including both a local back up drive and some sort of cloud storage for important files. We recommend having a hard case and sleeve for your laptop, an Ethernet cable, an HDMI cable, a USB A-B cable, and — if you have the new MacBook Pro — a USB-C to A adapter of some sort. We have many options available!
What is the best Mac computer?
This depends on your program of study and other needs. If you plan to store a large quantity of music, movies, or photos on your laptop, you may want to consider a larger hard drive. We have recommendations for many schools and programs of study including the Business School and School of Architecture, as well as recommendations for general studies students.
Does my college or degree have any specific technology requirements?
We recommend checking with your school and program of study for any requirements they may have. Keep in mind that you may want to look at requirements for upper-level classes you will take later in your college career.
Should I get a Mac or Windows computer? Does it matter?
Different departments have different needs, and some majors will require Windows. If you would prefer to invest in a Macintosh but still run Windows programs, the Mac can do that. Contact us to learn more!
Repairs
Can you fix my computer, tablet, smartphone, or smartwatch?
Our in-house repair center is staffed by certified repair technicians who can fix your broken Mac or Windows computer right here on campus. We are also able to facilitate repairs of iPads and Apple Watches. For broken iPhones, we strongly recommend calling the Apple Store in Metairie.
I purchased an additional warranty from Apple. Do you cover that?
As an Apple Authorized Service Provider, we honor the AppleCare protection plan for all covered issues on Apple Mac computers, iPads, Apple Watches, and other Apple products. We do not repair phones.
Will AppleCare cover my issue?
If you have a valid AppleCare warranty on your Apple product, we will probably be able to honor it. Check Apple's AppleCare Protection Plan website for details on what AppleCare covers and what it does not. If you are still unsure, bring your laptop or iPad into the store or give us a call.
I cracked my laptop's screen. Can you fix that?
We can fix your screen! We can diagnose your issue and quote you a price and timeframe for the installation of a new screen. Once you pay, we will order the part and repair your computer right in-store.
My computer won’t turn on. Can you help me?
Come see us for a free 15-minute consultation. If we cannot get your computer to function properly, we can check it into our repair center to run diagnostics, get your data to you, and replace any defective parts.
If I purchased my computer from Technology Connection, will you repair it for free?
Our in-house repair center repairs the computers we sell, in addition to most Macintosh computers no matter where they were purchased. If you have a Macintosh that is under an Apple warranty, we can often repair that computer at little or no cost to you, depending on the details of your AppleCare coverage and the repair needed. Additionally, if you have enrolled in our student laptop loaner program, we can loan you a laptop while your computer is being repaired. If it turns out that your computer is not under Apple's warranty, we will give you an estimated cost and timeline for repairs, allowing you to make an informed decision about whether or not you would like to pay for the repair.
How long does a computer repair usually take?
We estimate 3-5 business days for a repair, once we receive the necessary parts. Occasionally, a delay in receiving parts can affect your repair time, but that is not typical.
How much does a computer repair usually cost?
We have a labor and diagnostics fee of $25. An advanced repair can cost more, and we will send you a quote for whatever parts are necessary to fix your computer. Once you approve the added charges, we will complete the advanced repair.
Products
Do you only sell Apple computers?
In addition to Apple computers, iPads, and accessories, we also carry Dell laptops.
Tulane has a very robust student printing system. Printers are located in the libraries, computers labs, and even in some dorms. Because of the system, we have very little demand for printers and do not sell them as a standard item.
What software does Tulane offer to students?
Through Technology Services, Tulane students receive free access to Microsoft Office and CrowdStrike (antivirus software). CrowdStrike and Microsoft Office can be downloaded via the student email web portal.
Tulane students receive free access to Microsoft Office through their Tulane email account that will last as long as they are a student, faculty, or staff. Instructions on how to install Office can be found on this page. If you still need to purchase a copy, we do also sell licenses in-store.
Do you sell Apple Watches or other wearable technology?
We sell both Apple Watches and Fitbits!
Ordering, Purchases, & Returns
How do I purchase a laptop from Technology Connection?
Our online order form is available on our website, allowing you to purchase standard computer models. If you want a custom machine, we can provide a quote if you email tcorders@tulane.edu. Additionally, our retail store is open Monday-Saturday during the academic year. We invite you to come into the store for a personal consultation.
How soon can I buy a computer?
As soon as you have your Tulane email address, email us at tcorders@tulane.edu to start the process. If you already have your Splash Card, you can charge directly to Accounts Receivable! We can ship your computer to your home address starting in June!
What forms of payment do you accept?
We take Visa, MasterCard, Discover in person or over the web. We also accept Accounts Receivable and Splash Cash in store with Tulane ID present. We do not accept AMEX.
We offer payment via Accounts Receivable, which adds the computer purchase to your central Tulane bill. The Accounts Receivable office can provide more information on when that bill needs to be paid. You can also charge to Accounts Receivable and then work with Financial Aid to apply any applicable financial aid awards you may have to your Tulane bill.
Excluding custom computers, unopened computers will be accepted for return within 30 days of purchase with no restocking fee. After 30 days, the return is subject to a restocking fee and inspection. Opened box items are subject to a minimum 10% restocking fee and inspection. We generally do not accept a product after 30 days if it has been opened. Our full return policy is posted on our website.
If I bought something at an Apple Store, can I return it here?
We are a Tulane owned and operated store, so we are not able to take returns for items purchased at a local Apple store.
Can I use WaveBuck$ at Technology Connection?
WaveBuck$ can only be used for food and groceries because they are part of your dining plan. We do accept Splash Cash.
